Lost - Through the Looking Glass - Season Finale

I know this is a little delayed but for good reason. After every Lost episode, it supplies you with "water cooler" talk at the office. Because of what happened in Wednesday's season finale I must have ran into about 100 water coolers Thursday & Friday. So, I needed a little rest before I put some thought into a post for everyone else. This is the last one til next year so I will try to give a lot of good detail. Now on with Lost's season finale!

A little on the title of this episode: Through the looking glass. This is obviously based off of "Through the looking glass and what Alice found there" (second book of Alice in Wonderland). Alice enters an alternate reality through a mirror. Once in the new land, Alice becomes a pawn in a very large chess game. Her challenge was to become queen. In the story, the White Queen speaks of "living backwards". She best recalls events that have not happened yet, more so than the past. In Lost's episode we seem to be doing this with Jack. For the first time in the history of the show we flash-forward instead of backwards.

We first see Jack flying on an Oceanic flight where he is highly intoxicated and stumbles on an obituary for someone unkown to us as viewers. This article seems to be the turning point to make Jack want to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. Later we find Jack driving to Hoffs/Drawler Funeral Home. "Hoffs/Drawler" is an anagram for "flash-forward". Ok so here is one of the biggest questions from this episode, who is in the coffin? Personally, I would like to think it is Ben, but more on that thought in a minute. During Jack's drive to the funeral home he is listening to Nirvana's "Scentless Apprentice". The date of the newspaper Jack recieved on the plane was dated April 5, 2007. April 5th happens to be the date Kurt Cobain commited suicide. Coincidence?

The island manifests into another being. This time we see Walt talking to Locke. Walt gives Locke the power of healing again and gives him a mission. Locke is determined to keep Naomi from calling her ship sitting 8 miles from the island. But not determined enough to stop Jack, giving Jack warning, "you are not suppose to do this". Personally I think it is DHARMA coming back to take the island in vengence of what happened. In the episode we first met the Russian, Locke enters "77" when prompted if there has been a purge by the Hostiles. Later the communication station blows up. From that point I believed DHARMA was on their way back. Did you really think it was Penny? We have two more seasons to go, you know they aren't getting off that fast.

Ok back to Jack and the jaw dropping ending. We see Jack sitting on the floor next to a handful of maps spread out through the house. He makes a phone call to who I thought was going to be his ex-wife. Later to find Kate getting out of the car? Can this be happening? Jack says that they should have never left the island. He is tired of the "lying" and that they have to go back. Every Friday he gets on a flight over the Pacific Ocean to different destinations, has a drink in the next airport and gets back on the plane "hoping it crashes". I have to think he wants it to crash on the island again, and not for suicidal purposes. It seems his only motivation in life now that he has returned, is to find his way back to the island for unkown reasons. This is why I think it is Ben in the coffin. Ben has to be the only hope Jack ever had to get back.

Everyone I have talked to noticed that Kate looked a bit polished and no freckles. And also, Kate is not in jail now they have returned. Also, Jack makes a reference "get my father down here and see if he is more drunk than I am". We all know Jack's father is dead in the storyline of them on the island, his coffin was onboard the plane. Is Jack's dad alive? This gets me back to Alice and her crazy expeditions. Is this some alternate-reality in the future? Is the island an alternate-reality? Is this why no one can find the island, no matter how well their navigation is? Is this why Naomi crashed there instead of her ship cruising right up to the shores? I am currently in the 3rd book of Stephen King's Dark Tower series and there are a lot of similarities present in both, Lost & Roland's search of the Dark Tower through many different beams of reality and time. Or maybe the writers of Lost have me out on the edge of a cliff and I'm just trying to find that one limb to grab on to, so I can make sense of it all. Don't worry, we only have 9 whole months til we get some answers.

The Joker is back

Websites have popped up preparing us for the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Seems a website promoting Harvey Dent for Gotham City district attorney submerged the other day, IbelieveinHarveyDent.com (see image above). Following this, the Joker has a website which has defaced the Harvey Dent promo. Oh by the way, the Joker appears on his website, and he looks sadistic. http://www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/

Lost - episode #21

Greatest Hits

After Desmond told Charlie that he saw in a vision Claire and Aaron leaving on a helicopter, Charlie was happy. When he learned that he had to die this time for this to happen, Charlie's mood had changed. Charlie then begins to ponder his life and his greatest achievements and writes them down in a top 5 order (later to give to Desmond on the row boat).

One of the flashbacks that stuck out was Charlie saving a lady from being mugged in an alley. That lady was Sayid's love, Nadia. Mere coincidence?

I have to say this is one of the only times you really see Charlie in a different light. He seems to be one of the only characters not to have a dysfunctional life, minus the booze and drugs from his rock-n-roll days.

Now on to the "Looking Glass", which has to be a reference to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There by Lewis Caroll. Who are the 2 women who greet Charlie with assault rifles? Are they Hostiles or left over DHARMA?

One more observation. When Charlie is standing outside singing Oasis' Wonderwall in the rain, Desmond does not appear. Why is this? Is some event going to happen or already happened to alter history? Something to think about. Great show.

Updated Thought:

The first lady to come running through with a gun pointed at Charlie was a blonde haired lady. By any chance could this be Annie? At the end of episode #20, it never tells if Ben's childhood friend was gassed with the rest of DHARMA. It might be that Ben had stuck her in the Looking Glass station to jam all signals and to keep her safe. Just something else to think about.

X-Men 4 news

It seems news has leaked that Lost's James Holloway (Sawyer), will be billed as Gambit in the new X-Men movie. Now that I think about it, I can't think of a better person to play Gambit. Side by side they look identical. Gambit is a crazy cajun that can put energy into any object. Usually his playing cards when he is throwing them 100 mph. Gambit was also the love interest of Rogue.

Spider-Man 4

With Spider-Man 3 raking in the cash, we can be sure to get more Spidey movies. Freeze dried movies claims to have a source for what is to come in Spider-Man 4. First off let me say Freeze dried was the first to name Venom and Sandman as the villians in #3.

The villians for #4 will be Carnage, The Lizard, & most likely the Black Cat.

Peter Parker's proffesor Dr. Connors in the comics was the man that became the Lizard. If I remember right, Connors has some immune disease and injects himself with reptile DNA and morphs into the Lizard.

As for Carnage, he was a serial killer in prison that shared a cell with Eddie Brock. When the alien symbiote comes looking for Eddie, some of the symbiote attatches to his cell mate and he becomes Carnage. So does this mean Eddie Brock (Venom) is still alive? I hope so, because I want to see more of the Venom character as well.

Lost - episode #20

The man behind the curtain

This episode was a jaw dropper! There were a few cultural references in this episode. The title refers to Wizard of Oz ( pay no attention to the man behind the curtain ). There were a couple of Alice in Wonderland references thrown in there too. Ben following the white rabbit past the sonic barrier into a world he does not know. Ben's mother across the fence was in the Alice blue dress and headband. And was it me, or did young Ben look like Harry Potter?

Now on to the scene with Jacob. First off, what was that trail of powder surrounding Jacob's house that Locke stopped to examine? Once in, Ben starts talking to a chair that appears to have no one sitting there and Locke concludes Ben is a fake and phony. As Locke is disgusted he turns to leave and hears a different voice that says, "Help me." The house began to shake, windows crashed, and Ben was thrown to the wall. For a split second Locke could see someone sitting in the chair (see image above). Now it seems that only the person Jacob is speaking to can hear him because Ben was very intent on finding out what Jacob said to Locke.
Here are my questions after this episode:
Do the "hostiles" not age? When young Ben ran into the jungle he came across Dr. Richard Alpert who seemed to be the same age as he is now.
Are people just seeing things or does the island conjure up people of the past (Ben's dead mother, Kate's horse, Eko's brother, Hurley's friend from the mental institute)?
Did Annie die in the "Purge", and does she end up being Rousseau, mother of Alex?
Why is Ben the leader of the hostiles if he is not one of them? Where do the hostiles originate from?
Oh yeah, one more thing. I still do not trust Juliet.
